birdie slings and nappy bags

As you can imagine, the crafting section of my life will be taking a slower pace for a little while. I do have lists of things I want to try, but at a more leisurely pace. Particularly once this baby is born, in the clothing department. Right now I'm busy enjoying my family and taking it quite easy. In the meantime, I'll be showing things I intend to try, and links to interesting tutorials, if anyone else, like me, is interested. It's my own personal online file, if you will.

There is ONE more thing I just may tackle before the baby gets here, however...And I can't make up my mind between these two patterns...

Amy Butler's Birdie Sling...

Eventually, I may do both. I keep seeing all these bags on etsy that look oh so cute, but I can't just drop 60 bucks every time I feel a craving coming on...so I decided I may tackle my own version. I love diaper bags, and have a bit of an obsession for a good form and function combo.

I would eventually LOVE to work my mad skill level up to this one:

Kind of makes me twitch a little just looking at it, but good 'ole Amy seems pretty practical, so we'll see!

Ashley, my parents go to church with you and I keep up with your blog (when I need a really good laugh!) but I've never posted anything on it...until now! I have made a few Amy Butler birdie slings for friends as baby gifts. It's a fairly easy pattern and has some great pockets on the inside. It's pretty roomy and could be a "medium-sized" diaper bag. I just made one for myself...baby due in 2 weeks! I saw the nappy bag not too long ago and thought I'd order that pattern, too. Looks really cute. Good luck with #3!

Thanks, Andrea! Love your parents. Aren't you having a little girl? Congratulations! I didn't know we were so close together until I stalked your dad down the other night over a pinkeye case and then we started talking about you. ;) They think I'm psycho. But your little ones will be the same ages apart that Aiden and Emerson are. Fun fun!!!

I actually got excited and ordered the Birdie sling last night as my one last official take on. I may be doing the nappy bag as well though. I love both! Don't you just love her patterns? I'm kind of obsessed.

Best wishes with your pregnancy-and thanks for leaving me some sewing feedback...I need all the helpful input I can get!!!

Ashley, what's the 3rd pattern called? It looks amazing. Let us know how the birdie sling works... I'm taking my first sewing class at Jo-Ann tomorrow and cannot wait to be able to try these things myself! (I figure if I pay someone to teach me something I'll pay attention better.)

Sorry guys. It's called the Amy Butler Weekender. It looks a little complicated with the piping. Piping scares me. If anyone tries it or has made it, please let me know I would LOVE to make it myself. Its like your own little piece of overnight luggage! It would be perfect for the hospital...too bad my mad sewing skills aren't up to par...

I was gonna say I like the birdie sling best...good luck! I'm slow getting into the sewing world but maybe someday I can tackle something more than a pillow cover. :-)

Chelsey-I am a "self taught" seamstress. {read=Jamin bought a sewing machine for me via moms day a few years ago and then made fun of me since I had begged him for one and then took a good six months to touch it} make the purchase, then ask a friend who sews to show you the basics (aka threading the bobbin=the hardest part=many thanks to Jamey} I have ripped many a seam, but its totally therapeutic. and COMPLETELY rewarding when you accomplish something you thought would be harder than it actually was. DO IT!!!
