Because tent-like night gowns are sexy...
I made a private vow to myself, when I got married, and had a wonderfully more-than-generous lingerie shower.
I would never wear a night gown to bed.
And then I got pregs. For the third time.
Yeah. Forget lingerie-it doesn't fit my already bludgeoning belly. Neither do my pajamas. They all look stupid, not to mention life threateningly suffocating. And no, I'm not forking out fifty bucks on maternity pajamas. That ship has sailed. It's called priorities. It was Jamin's boxers and t-shirts for me. Hawtness. When the old favorite t-shirt no longer fit, and my husband actually cracked a joke that I looked like white trash (Yeah, he actually said that-and in all fairness, it was warranted. I am the person on Oprah who answers the door and looks beyond horrified because she wears her crap clothes all day) I knew it was time to move on to bigger and better, (however tent-like) things.
That was when I made the decision of all life altering decisions.
I decided to break out the maternity nightgown I found hanging in my closet. It was my sister in laws. I don't know if she ever wore it.
It is blue. It's soft. It's marvelous.
And I'm never giving it up.
I have worn this magical tunic for two nights in a row.
And then I woke up and actually looked at myself in the mirror.
It ages me nearly fifty years. I look like my grandmother. The only thing missing is my night bonnet with curlers.
Me: "Yeah...this doesn't really do it for you, does it?"
Jamin: "No."
Me: "Sweet." {a sound night's sleep...guaranteed}

haha...i remember your lingerie shower...
this sounds like a time where comfort wins out over looks. i can only imagine how uncomfortable it is to be pregnant and sleeping in too tight pjs.
i love reading your blog...always makes me smile. :)
hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh you make me laugh!
LOL!!! You crack me up girl!! I totally feel your pain!!
Thanks for your sweet comment, I really appreciate it!!!
Hilarious. Wear it proud, girl.
You are so funny! Wear them with pride if they are comfy!
I've slept in nothing but a stretchy black maternity tank and panties since 2004. But I live in Florida and anything approaching more than 3 square feet of fabric will make me sweat. Seriously, though, stretchy black maternity tank. It grows and shrinks with you (and then grows again) so it always fits! I will be in the Motherhood store at the mall still stocking up when I'm 72. They'll think I'm a miracle!
With your first child you wear maternity clothes as soon as possible. With your second, you wear "regular" clothes as long as possible. By your third, your regular clothes ARE maternity.
Is it wrong that I am jealous of your nightgown? Because I am...just a smidge. You know my fave part? When you have to wear your nursing bra to bed, with nursing pads, because you don't want to change your sheets in the middle of the night due to all the leaking. That is pretty sexy too, I'm sure :).
Holly-SO TRUE. SO TRUE. I'm still trying to squeeze into my skinny jeans with a bella band. I pray my shirt doesn't blow up every time I'm out, or there will be the largest muffin top ever seen by mankind.
AMEN Dallas. AMEN. Oh I'm so not ready to go back again! UGH. only four more months of freedom!
ps the gown IS fabulous. I'm wearing it right now. haha.
Haha! I made the same vow! Then the hubbie broke a rib, had eye surgery, and we moved to Texas...all within eight months. I needed pajamas!
Oh gosh, I am SO loaning you my zebra print mumu! Hahaha. I thought of you yesterday when I was at the hospital wearing the giant gown. It reminded me why I hate sleeping in gowns & oversized t-shirts. They get all twisted. But I suppose if they fit right, they would be downright comfy. Hey - whatever works!!
{DANG - I should have stolen the hospital gown for you!! Exept they leaked betadyne on it. Gross, sorry.}
Ok that was just too funny!! I am right there with you. I think Jud would agree with Jamin on a few of his thoughts!
I LOVE reading your blog! You are too funny!
Love reading this! I got a great vision of MeMe at bedtime. How did she sleep with all that stuff in her hair every night?? Happy Friday!
I was totally expecting to see a picture....:)
"and then I looked in the mirror..." Too funny.
Maybe you should have worn that a few months ago; then there may not be baby #3 on the way....:)
Hey girl! I got our most adorable flower hair clips in the mail yesterday! You are on the ball, that was quick! I've got an e-mail out to my friend that has the sale. She just finished up the spring sale so she's on vacation. But, I'll get back to you when I talk to her. Have a great day!
