Ducks and Hamburgers
Jamin was out of town this weekend. My saving grace, my parents, were too. (I didn't tell them Jamin was leaving because I wanted them to go) So I was at home for a total of 48 hours on my loansome until Jamin returned. Not a big deal. I can handle it. I'm a big girl. {Read: I am so thankful that my parents are here, because they are so wonderful! I'm totally spoiled.}
I decided to be super mom and after running a few errands with the kids on Saturday, we would go to the park and feed the ducks.
Until the bread ran out.
Bad Idea.
I have never seen my strong willed child, who is THE most strong willed child in the world, by the way, pitch such a fit. I didn't know that fits could last so long. This was the fit of all fits. The entire way home:
I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks!I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks!I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks!I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks! I want to feed the ducks!
I stopped at Arby's and purchased some chicken nuggets for lunch, because the entire time he was screaming he wanted to feed the ducks, I kept trying to determine what he would eat for lunch.
I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger!I want a hamburger! I want a hamburger! Me: I want to blow my brains out!!! I want to blow my brains out!!! I want to blow my brains out!!!
The fit lasted, read it people, ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES. There was no rationalizing with him. He was exhausted. I timed it. I finally threw him in his room (when we were off that hellish car ride) and locked the door. He fell asleep from sheer exhaustion.
STRONG. WILLED. CHILD.
I am not a bad mother. My child is not horrible. He just has a very strong personality. Someone, please tell me you've been there before. I need therapy. I am going to DIE with three children. DIE.
Someone very wise recently told me I am in the dark ages, and that it gets better. I totally believe her.

Bless your heart! You should talk to Baron's sister. Their oldest, Emma, is a strong willed child. For sure. And they're afraid Ella might be following after her big sister's footsteps...
P.S. Totally off the subject, but your outfit was so cute Sunday morning. I didn't get to catch you after church to tell you. Love the dress, love the boots. And Emerson's shoes were adorable, too!
Oh girl, I feel your pain! We should talk! I have a strong-willed one too. My little boy, who can be the sweetest and most loving child can also become SATAN himself on occasion.
I've never timed them, but at one point, he was hitting his head on the wall and screaming and hollering until I thought he would explode! Wow! I am so glad to hear of someone else who has to deal with this! I'm sorry, but I'm glad too.
One thing that helped me - in one of my more genius moments (sent by God because of my constant SCREAMS for help with him) I decided to video tape him when he was all hysterical and crazy. Oh, he HATED that! But I did it, I taped it for a while and finally when he calmed down, I told him that when Daddy got home from work that we were all going to sit down and watch the way he acted.
I don't know if Aiden behaves better for Jamin or not, but my little one surely does! Something about a Daddy can just calm his butt down! It may be that he's rubbing his butt after wards, if you know what I mean. But just making him watch it and see how he acts made it better. I had to do that a total of 2 times, and we haven't had the craziness since. I'm not saying we won't have it, but it really has been much better!
And sometimes I think they feed off of our feelings. I think I was really stressed out at the time and I think that made it worse. I had no clue what to do and how to fix it.
I hope this helps!
Thank goodness I am not the only one!!! I have a five year old that is very strong willed. I wish at times that I could lock myself in my own bedroom when he has one of his days. But then I look into his big blue eyes, and I just love him more than the day before. We are also expecting #3 and I just pray that with time and age he will get better.
Aww what a sweet picture of the kids! Look how grown up Emmerson looks! She looks more like a toddler and less like a baby! Sorry we haven't been able to chat in a few days maybe tomorrow? love ya!
Don't worry - one day it will get better! I used to think Claire was bi-polar due to her crazy fits!! She is so much better now (at 5), but every once in awhile, the horns still come out!! I am kind of in denial about having 3 kids =)....
At least the ducks didn't throw a fit...they are scary when you run out of bread. ;) Great picture, by the way.
Oh you poor pregnant thing! I hope you make Jamin give you a foot massage every night for a week.
Lucy went through a horrible fit throwing phase between 3-4. I actually took her to the doctor because I thought her throat had an infection. Turns out she had busted blood vessels from all the screaming. She's fine now though and usually only throws a fit when she's exhausted. Hang in there.
I totally feel your pain. Jax threw a tantrum in the middle of a store. I didn't time it, but I know it lasted at least 45 min. He is completely strong willed. I think we need to start a support group!
I'm so with you. I wish we lived closer because this story sounds all too familiar. And I'm tired of people giving me the "you should discipline your child" look all the time. We are probably stricter than anyone we know because ours IS so strong-willed. Yesterday he pitched a fit because he didn't get a treat after his haircut. Fit at the barber=no treats. He screamed for 45 solid minutes that he wanted Skittles. After I got him home and rinsed the hair off, he wanted p.j.'s on. I was too mentally exhausted to deal with it so I put them on him even though we were going to the gym. Then he screamed the entire way to the gym that he wanted his shirt and pants back on. I didn't give on either...he went Skittle-less and had to wear his p.j.'s but I had to listen to over an hour of screaming and Greg finally met me at the gym to relieve me of the
spawn of satan <stop> ;iiiiUm, that was supposed to say spawn of Satan (strikethrough) Little Precious. Not sure what happened there.
so glad to know I'm not alone. I'm sick of those stupid stares to say the least, as well. Particularly from those with no children. I just smile politely at their moronic bewilderment and then pray that they have IMPOSSIBLE spawns of satan x Aiden x 10. It would never hurt to offer so help, ya know. IT KILLS ME.
I'm really trying to think of something sympathetic to say here, but I'm still fully immersed in this pool of self-pity I created while reading about how awesome it is to have your parents local. I'm too busy trying to wrap my mind around how much better my life would be if I were in your shoes. But the story about the tantrum helped. Thanks for that, anyway.
Yea...Rhegan is like that to. However - I don't think she has ever had such an extreme tantrum like that. haha .... But close!! She is a hethan sometimes!!
And as far as potty training with her. She will poop just about everytime in the potty...I can't get her to tee-tee!! It's very frustrating!!
