Mantel Makeovers + Embarrassment On Aisle 3
With Emerson tucked into the baby sling and Aiden lounging restlessly in the cart, (I am quickly becoming a pro with the whole child maneuvering thing) Hobby Lobby's check out line is where you could find yours truly on Friday morning. We patiently waited while the line lurched forward. Aiden was being a bit obnoxious, emptying the contents in my nightmare of a chaotic diaper bag, searching for something to play with. An older man one person ahead, clearly delighted by Aiden's comedic act, chuckled as he watched my 2.75 year old destroy its contents. I was asking him to put everything back in the bag as we were next in line, while I moved forward with the herding of shoppers. I stopped cold when I caught something out of the corner of my eye that had landed smack dab in the middle of the aisle and its small sea of people. Oh the horror. I dove in a split second, heart racing and hands shaking, completely mortified as there was no denying it was mine-everyone in front and behind had just witnessed Aiden's antics. There lay a, uh, feminine product, smack dab in the middle of aisle three displayed in all its medium absorbency glory for all to see. I promptly turned a nice shade of rosy pink, sheepishly shoving it back into my bag, quietly adding this incident to my mental list of children induced travesties as I proceeded to checkout.
Now that I've documented horrific moment 5,554 for me, here's a few other things I've been engrossed in...
My mantel makeover...I have been wanting something different for a while, and decided to paint this damask pattern on two large panels...I then textured and stained each piece for a vintage look giving it some character. This ranks amongst my most tedious of projects. I have artistically induced OCD issues. I now close my eyes and see Damask floaters. Hurray.
Friday, some friends and I got together and tie dyed shirts for the kiddies. Isn't Emmy's onesie just adorable? I think these would make some awesome little gifts rolled up with complementary ribbons for mommies to be.
Isn't she yummy?!
Daddy and Emerson in their pink shirts!
My sweet little model all tuckered out.
the end.

Ha! I'm sure you and I could sit and play "one up" on embarrassing offspring-induced moments for hours! Love the mantle. Hate you for being talented and artistic and everything I'm not.
I LOVE the Damusk prints!!!! I seriously am dying for you to paint something for us to hang up in our house! As soon as Walt and I can agree on something, maybe we can move forward with that project : ) That onesie really did turn out adorable! Nice work!

I am so inspired by your constant creativity--I feel like my creative muscles have atrophied over the past several years due to dumb old budgeting restraints. Thanks for posting your gorgeous mantle-art--it's a great reminder to me that thrifty and resourceful is the best kind of creative! Take THAT, Pottery Barn!
Feminine product? You mean, like a nail file?
oh yes, Jesse! THAT is the only creative I do, unless I want to save my monies (as Aiden calls it) for like three months on end!
No, ROXY! It was fingernail POLISH. ;)
